When contacted at the time of going to press, the  PPRO Benue State  DSP Catherine Sewuese Anene said she was yet to be briefed about the fire outbreak.

One of the victims, INSP Abubakar Musa told World Link that, " This happened around 1:20 PM, I was inside sleeping and my wife was outside and saw the smoke covered the whole barracks and she started shouting, I woke from my sleep and ran outside, we tried all we could to put off the fire in vain,  we ran to the fire brigade but we were told that their vehicle broke down, but with the help of other family members from the barrack and neighboring civilians we were able to stop the fire from engulfing the whole barrack but it had already razed the whole of my apartment and many others."
