I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RICE FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT - Achado

I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY RICE FROM FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

From the office of Arc. Dr. Austin Asema Achado

My attention has been drawn to a video in circulation,  Informing the public that all Honourable Members of the Tenth National Assembly were given Four (4) Trailer load of Rice for their various Federal Constituencies.

This information and claim is spurious and misleading. As the Member representing the good people of Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency, I wish to state categorically that not one bag of rice has been received from the Federal Government of Nigeria for distribution to the good people of Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency.

I am aware that the Federal Government in its wisdom  made provision of one hundred million naira towards providing palliatives and Installation of Solar Street Lights in every Federal Constituency. The award letter for the said project was released to the Contractors on the 15th of December, 2023, with the analysis of Fifty Million Naira for provision of Rice and the other Fifty Million Naira for installation of Solar Street Lights. The contractor that won the bid for my Federal Constituency is yet to sign the contractual agreement with the Federal Ministry Agriculture and has not commenced the execution of the contract. When the  supply is received, it will be conveyed to Aliade and distributed accordingly.

In the spirit of the 2023 Christmas season, I was able to celebrate through provision of bags of rice, cows, rams, condiments and cash to members of my constituency. At this point, I wish to humbly reiterate my oath of service to my constituents that I will never relent in providing the dividends of democracy to the good people of Gwer East/Gwer West Federal Constituency. Recall, we influenced the contract for the reconstruction of Aliade Divisional Police Station and Staff Quarters, which is ongoing.

I will also in the spirit of transparency and forthright service, call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Civil Society Organizations, Concerned Citizens of Benue State and the Inspector General of Police to investigate the purported supply of bags of rice for distribution to my constituents.
