THE PORKFEST STORY

The idea of a Pork Festival came to my mind one night while attending a Farm Jam organized by my friend Mr Andy Iordye Shaku Nor at their farm in Makurdi during the 90's.
This light bulb moment played in my mind over and over for years and most times I would discuss it with my brothers at our family end of year barbecue night.

 Kounty farms was later born, with vested interest in pork production,
Slowly but surely the idea began to gain momentum.
Before long, an impressive team of enthusiastic barbecue-loving friends agreed to support the feast.
 Kounty farms then agreed to host the maiden edition and provide all the pork for the feast which has today given rise to Kounty Pork Festival Gboko

We are passionate about the pork value chain industry and committed to using their skills and talents to give back to the community by delivering a truly delicious event.

The Kounty Pork Festival is organized by PorkFest Nigeria.

The Pork festival is an annual food event, a blend of tradition with cultural music, dances, arts and handcraft the result of a renewed desire to bring to the fore the rich Tiv history and heritage for visitors and locals alike to enjoy.

Porkfest shall showcase;

The Tiv mans love for pork and his cultural heritage and historical artifacts.

A Tiv man loves pork and has placed premium value on pork more than many other meats, hence the adage "igyo dondu", meaning pork is 2nd to none."
This can be testified by the abundance of pig farms, pig slaughter slabs, pork eateries /joints all over the Benue valley particularly the Tiv nation and its environs.

In ancient times, a Tiv traditional marriage rite was deemed incomplete if a black pig was not presented to your in-laws. Till date, the black pig is one item on the marriage list that is not bargain-able. It is important to note that the prolific nature of the pig is the reason behind it's demand by in-laws during marriages, signifying fertility to the would be couples. Meaning the couples will bear many children. The bigger the pig, shows how much love the man has for his wife.

For this reason, Porkfest-NG has chosen an emblematic space, the ichombu I tar Tiv; Gboko to project this festival.

We shall exhibit the Tiv culture, it's arts, crafts and artifacts, not forgetting her traditional ways of life.
This fiesta will aid in building bridges of friendship across borders and boost the Tourism potential of the ancient city and the Benue valley.
