BENUE WOMEN PROTEST OVER INVASION OF FULANI HERDSMEN

A group of women protesters from Uyo and Mbagir, Uyam ward, Isherev extraction in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State on sunday, August 13th 2023 barricaded federal express way in a protest over the alleged killing of their husbands, sons and daughters as well as continuous destruction of property and possession of their farm lands.

Speaking to newsmen, Leaders of the group Mrs. Agnes Beega and Justina Simon expressed dismay over what they both described as an act of heartlessness, wickedness, inhuman and barbaric.

According to them, majority of indeginous people of the Area has since relocated to safer areas for safety of lives as the alleged Fulani  herders has taken over ancestral homes.

The aggrieved women who took their peaceful protest to the chairman's residence and that of senator representing Benue North East senatorial district; Barr. Emmanuel Udende noted that none of them were on ground for them to register their greviances.

They appealed to Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia's administration to collaborate with senator Udende, Hon. Solomon Wombo, Engr. Ezra Nyiyongo and other leaders to as a matter of urgency come to their aid.

As at the time of filling in this report, Senator Udende, Engr. Nyiyongo and the acting chairman; Joseph Apera were all not on ground for responses while the aggrieved women proceeded with sorrowful songs to the palace of Uyam district Head; His Highness Chief Stephen Ahamber Biam.
